    Plaquenil and prednisone for lupus

I don't get many side effects generally, but with prednisone I DO. It does help, but this can't be a long term affair. Plaquenil is a great drug (I have no experience with it, but many people with lupus take it). I'd ask your rheumy about it and have them explain why they made that choice for you. Prednisone is an intermediate acting corticosteroid-which means it has direct anti-inflamitory properties that take effect begining in a few hours. Is plaquenil another option instead of the prednisone? It is ment to get this undercontrol now and diminish your pain.

Plaquenil hydroxychloroquine is an antimalarial medication used to treat or prevent malaria, a disease caused by parasites, which enter the body through the bite of a mosquito. Plaquenil is also used to treat symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and discoid or systemic lupus erythematosus. Plaquenil is available in generic form. Plaquenil hydroxychloroquine. Regular prednisone use causes the gland to stop making its own steroids. Prednisone Side Effects. Lupus patients get heart attacks at a younger age. The prednisone is a steriod and the plaquenil is a anti malaria drug. The thing with plaquenil for me is that I don't notice much of anything taking it but when I go off then I flare up and then really notice it. I have been taking the plaquinil for about 8 years morning and night and the prednisone off and on.

It has not direct anti-inflamitory properties and instead works on the immune system-though the mechanism is not known. Plaq is a longer time medication it may take two months before their is a noticable difference.

It should go away with the prednisone I have found that to be true. Plaquenil probably won’t protect you from getting Covid-19, but it should make it less dangerous and shorten the lifespan.

Re Plaquenil - Better Than Prednisone? Have been taking Plaquenil for over a year now and it has definitely made a huge difference in my quality of life. When I first went to my Rhuemy and found out what was wrong, I was so sick I could barely function with fatigue, joint and muscle aches just to name a few. Yes, anti-malarials can be taken with other lupus medications, including corticosteroids e.g. prednisone, immunosuppressives, cytotoxic drugs, and NSAIDs. Anti-malarial drugs may be given in combination with prednisone to reduce the amount of steroid needed to control lupus symptoms and thus to alleviate some of the side effects of the steroid. Side-effects of Prednisone. In the chapter Treating Lupus With Medications, I talked about prednisone as being the single most important factor in improving the outlook for lupus patients. It is a very powerful tool in the treatment of lupus, it is usually effective in bringing lupus under control and it saves lives.

Hi all, I'm sure this has been asked several times, but I haven't been able to find a recent thread. I have a prescription for Plaquenil from my new PCP whom I just love. Preventing Plasmodium vivax Malaria relapses with a single. Jan 20, 2019 P. vivax also has the ability to lie dormant in the liver from where it periodically reactivates to cause relapses of P. vivax malaria. Hence, a single P. vivax infection can give rise to multiple episodes of malaria. The dormant liver forms of the parasite cannot be treated with most antimalarial treatments active against the blood-stage parasite.
