    Plaquenil for mctd

I've read numerous horrible things about the side effects of this drug, but I know it is necessary to prevent more damage to my body. I am currently on 20mg of Prednisone a day and was chastised by my new doctor about being on such a high dose as kidney issues are common with my disease.

Usually, treatment for UCTD consists of some combination of analgesics and NSAIDs to treat pain, topical corticosteroids for skin and mucous tissue, and Plaquenil hydroxychloroquine as a disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug DMARD. Mixed connective tissue disease MCTD or Sharp's syndrome is a human autoimmune disease in which the immune system attacks the body. MCTD combines features of polymyositis, systemic lupus erythematosus, and systemic scleroderma and is thus considered an overlap syndrome. Plaquenil takes time for it to kick in 4-6 months. Once it kicks in you'll feel a little better and not as fatigued and achy. You'll need to be sun aware too because it will make you sun sensitive.

My new doctor said she "is treating this like Rheumatoid Arthritis" because joint and muscle pains are my worst issue. However, I have to say that the steroids have helped my swelling and inflammation TREMENDOUSLY since starting them.

Plaquenil helps with joint pain but not muscle aches and pains. Actually one of the rare side effects is myopathy, which is muscle weakness. My Optho and the research I did online tells me the retinal toxicity is very rare-- but of course that doesn't help if you are the rare one. MCTD is rare too and here we are. Mild mixed connective-tissue disease MCTD may be controlled with NSAIDs. Arthritis/arthralgia can often be controlled with NSAIDs and hydroxychloroquine. Low-dose oral corticosteroids or low-dose methotrexate is reserved for more refractory synovitis. Auto Immune Disease treatments MCTD and Methotrexate Well, I was diagnosed with Mixed Connective Tissue Disease, a lovely mix of Lupus, Scleroderma, and Myositis about 5 months ago and was recently given a prescription for Methotrexate 7.5mg a week taken once weekly with Folic Acid taken daily.
