Shingles without a rash is called “zoster sine herpete” (ZSH). It’s also difficult to diagnose because the usual shingles rash isn’t present. This virus is known as varicella zoster virus (VZV). If you’ve had chickenpox, the virus will remain dormant in your nerve cells. Experts don’t fully understand what causes the virus to reactivate and why it only reactivates in some people. When VZV reappears as shingles, the virus is known as herpes zoster. Keep reading to learn more about this condition and what to expect if you develop shingles without a rash. The symptoms of ZSH are similar to the symptoms of shingles, but without a rash. If you have shingles and are in contact with someone who hasn’t had chickenpox or wasn’t vaccinated for chickenpox, you can give that person chickenpox. The symptoms are usually isolated to one side of the body and commonly occur on the face and neck, and in the eyes. Typical symptoms include: Shingles isn’t contagious. That person would have to come in direct contact with your shingles rash. so i had my first outbreak of hsv 1 genitally four weeks ago, and took Valtrex for my perscribed ten days. About half way through, i started to have a small swelling on my arm that soon turned in to a small cluster of irritated looking rash. my boyfriend had poison oak at the time and i was exposed to it as well, and figured i was just catching it for the first time. theres now spots on my legs and arms and stomach and chest, really itchy and red. i went to the doctor today for poison oak and she took one look and doubted my self-diagnosis but perscribed me a steroid cream that should clear it up regardless of the cause. just wondering if anyone has had a reaction like this to Valtrex...i read on the side effects that skin rash is listed but wanted some personal experiences.
Valacyclovir is used to treat infections caused by certain types of viruses. In children, it is used to treat cold sores around the mouth (caused by herpes simplex) and chickenpox (caused by varicella zoster). In adults, it is used to treat shingles (caused by herpes zoster) and cold sores around the mouth. The viruses that cause these infections continue to live in the body even between outbreaks. Valacyclovir is also used to treat outbreaks of genital herpes. Valacyclovir decreases the severity and length of these outbreaks. In people with frequent outbreaks, this medication is used to reduce the number of future episodes. It helps the sores heal faster, keeps new sores from forming, and decreases pain/itching. This medication may also help reduce how long pain remains after the sores heal. Read the Patient Information Leaflet if available from your pharmacist before you start taking valacyclovir and each time you get a refill. After 50 days, and now doing herbs only under Buhner protocol. They are maaaaaaannnnny not just one, but if you look it up you'll get the idea. Again with herbs you need to be more careful - my boy got full body Treato does not review third-party posts for accuracy of any kind, including for medical diagnosis or treatments, or events in general. Hello, I recently had a Cold Sore (1st one ever) and went to a dermatologist. Afterwards, take same dosage at first sign of symptoms. I took the pills and about 1/2 day after first dosage, I began to feel itchy and small rashes began to appear and disappear throughout my body. They appeared on my hands, wrist, above the knee, neck, around my rib area, and waist. It's been over 36 hours since I've taken the last dosage and these skin irritations persist. I attached a picture I took of the last occurrence. Any suggestions as to what this may be is greatly appreciated. I would like to know if this is Shingles beginning to set in, a heat rash, or something else. Hello, Since the rash appeared after taking the medicine, it can be due to hives skin which has appeared in response to allergic reaction to the medicine . I upped Valtrex to 1500mg a day for five days and nothing happened. Valtrex didn't do anything and the cream at best maybe just keeps it as is I guess. w/Dermatologist but it would relax my mind to know something now. However, on Monday I got up and under my arm the skin felt as if there was a rash on it (liken it to a rash from rough clothing against your skin) but there is nothing there! Could I be allergic to the Valtrex and only have a rash on part of my body? I thought it might be a herpes rash, but I would think after ten years, the rash would go away within 7-12 days. I found out I have HSV-2 and they gave me Valtrex and told me not to have sex if I have symptoms. As the day progressed the pain progressed and by the time I went to bed last night the pain had grown to include the whole underarm area and also my shoulder blade area on my back. It seems to be getting worse even using the Valtrex. I had high antibodies so they think I have had this for years. Does it happen every time you take valacyclovir and stay there. It felt as though the skin was on fire and yet there was no redness or anything. The problem is that even at 2 grams of Valtrex per day, I have constant outbreak marks - not painful lesions, but red marks on the buttocks that normally I might not even notice. If the rash is due to VCV, it should not come and go as long as you are taking the drug? I stopped taking Valtrex for about a year and haven't been bothered by the elbow bumps much, but recently I felt a herpes ob coming on, and I took about 4 Valtrex pills a dayfor 2 days - the skin on my elbows got really dry and then the rash came up at both elbows and in all the other places. two months ago, beginning of September, I had protected sex twice, and unprotected cunninglingus with a woman who later informed me she contracted genital hsv 1 by rape many years ago. I am going through the rash right as we speak, and I will agree it didnt hurt at first, but 5000 scratches and itches later the skin did become tender and hurt. If so that could have something to do with it, I did, I would scratch and itch so bad, actually I am in week 8 and the itching is the hardest thing about this treatment, not that the rest is easy, I did find some relief with hdrocortisone 2.5 per cent lotion (dr. (Burning at the tip and pelvic pain and pain down the leg but I can remember the extent…been a while and the rash on the testicles.) I know these all might not be herpes. Drug allergies may be either specific to the drug being taken or it may occur within a class of drugs. They do not itch or burn, but they feel somewhat irritated. I took two benedryl and the next day could barely see them. I keep reading that Valtrex doesn't cause allergies - but why do I seem to be having a reaction to it? She stated she is on suppresive therapy (valtrex) and was sure she was not having an outbreak. I was in a previous relationship for 4 years without Valtrex and didnt use condoms and my partner was never infected. -Since then I have had pain in the testicles and irritation at the tip of the penis and on the shaft. Thus, if this is a valacyclovir reaction, you might not react to famciclovir (you would however be likely to react to acyclovir since VCV turns into acyclovir within the body). I just got out of a hot tub and noticed they are still there, but most are gone. the Valtrex seems to really dry out my skin and scalp also. I first noticed a small bump on under my bottom lip approx 5 to 7 days later which I thought to be a zit and popped it. However, with my new partner i'm scared of transmitting it so i've started suppression therapy. Is Famvir and Acyclovir just as effective (as far as transmission) ? He has not experienced an outbreak, but I tell you I have stressed over every single thing headache, backache, or allergy symptom he casually mentioned and googled to see if it could be related. Interestingly, I do have a little tinea versicolor on my back, white dry patches that is a yeast fungus?! I have a few small blisters on my back under the shoulder blade, then one under my right breast, and one on my nipple. A few day it healed with consisted of a crusty yellow scab.
